Input from the larger school community is critical to the success of this project and there will be multiple opportunities to ensure that happens.
We have embarked on the following 4 phase process to select a design for the new playground.
– Phase 1 – Critical Thinking Challenge – The Question
– Phase 2 – Critical Thinking Challenge – Determine the Criteria
-CURRENT Phase 3 – Evaluate and vote on options
– Phase 4 – Finalize the design
Phase 1 – COMPLETED:
The consultation process started at the school level in January! A Critical Thinking challenge with the following two framing questions was run:
1) What would make the best playground?
2) What do you like to do best at recess?
As can be seen below, In answering these questions, the students were able to generate criteria that will inform us as to our next steps.
Phase 2 – Critical Thinking Challenge – Determine the Criteria – COMPLETED
At this phase, we need to determine the criteria for the new playground. Criteria are not specific items (slides, pirate ships, monkey bars), but rather the things by which we’ll use to evaluate the future design options. This will be collected from students in the school and also from the broader school community online via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Phase 3 – Evaluate and vote on options – Update April 30th, 2018
Based on the feedback from phase 1 and 2, we have been working with designers to come up with a potentials designs. The students have been viewing the design and potential structure elements to help shape the final plan. The following images are a replica of what is set up in the foyer of the school. If you have any feedback for the team, please send an e-mail to email@example.com.

Phase 4 – Finalize the design
The committee will use all the feedback gathered from phase 1, 2, and 3 to finalize a design for the new playground!
